Science writing & communications

As expert science writers and content producers, we create all types of science and technology-led materials, from infographics and blogs to award applications and reports.

The Lister Institute of Preventive Medicine

We have worked with this prestigious biomedical research funding organisation for several years. Our science writers produce an editorial calendar to keep the website current and write regular news articles about Lister Fellows and their research. We also help create content for their Annual Report.

A favourite project was producing and publishing their 125th anniversary publication, featuring interviews and insights from their members and partners. We have a close working relationship with the Lister team and enjoy attending their Annual Meeting each year.

European Service Network (ESN)

Scientia Scripta has worked with ESN for nearly two decades. We specialise in writing journalistic articles about a wide range of European research projects and the intersection of research and EU policy.

Most recently, we have produced a number of “success stories” for the European Commission to publish on various websites, for example: Bacterial biofilters could cut greenhouse gas and clean water. These articles help to demonstrate how European science funding delivers value for taxpayers’ money.

Business Digest

Our team of science writers produce regular features about academic research related to science and technology emerging from some of France’s top business schools. We interview the researchers involved to produce lively, engaging articles that relate the findings to everyday life.

CleanCert Hygiene Ltd

CHL sought our help with the redevelopment of their website. They were looking for science writers who could understand the clinical background to their business and their products and translate that knowledge into clean, sharp web copy and marketing messages.

We also support them with developing adverts and an ongoing series of INSIGHTS – blog-like articles designed to share their expert knowledge through regularly updated content.

EPACSSYS

We worked with ERP (enterprise research planning) software providers Epaccsys to edit early internal notes into a whitepaper relating to PPE shortages during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Working closely with the founders of the company, we had to balance some delicate issues to encourage NHS Trusts to change their processes and use barcoding technology to ensure that they are better prepared for future pandemics.

VO Europe

We assembled a team of journalists and science writers to attend and report on the European Commission’s R&I Days Conference, covering events on European policy, infrastructure, investment, research and innovation.

We ensured that every session was covered by one of our writers, who took live notes on proceedings to brief the Master of Ceremonies to inform transitions and summaries of sessions. Our team compiled full reports on each session that were used to inform web content and EC staff.

Forest Research

Scientia Scripta worked with Forest Research to revamp its website. Firstly, we interviewed scientists to find out about their recent research, and sourced facts and figures from publications and scientific papers. Then, we crafted content for each page, along with meta-data to boost SEO. The completed pages focus on the results, findings, and impact of research projects.

Our workflow included thorough checking, editing and approval steps to ensure that all parties were happy with the accuracy, clarity, and effectiveness of the final website pages.

Dalton Nuclear Institute

We managed a team of freelance writers to produce 120 pages of high quality website content. We provided copywriting, quality control and editorial oversight.

The new web copy was carefully crafted to use natural language for search engine optimisation. After launch, the website was the top Google result for the keywords ‘nuclear research’ – meeting one of the client’s primary objectives for the project. Several years later, it still ranks in the top ten.

Agilent

Scientia Scripta helped rewrite hundreds of web pages on clinical and pre-clinical research and measurement products when Agilent acquired Varian Inc.

We participated in on-site discussions and online training programmes to ensure that the writing style, brand guidelines, editing, and publishing process was firmly understood by each member of the copywriting team. Each page was written to balance online usability, SEO and marketing considerations.
